In Year 3 of the project, the NASA North Olympic Peninsula Solutions Network team will focus on the transition and dissemination of the Solutions Network model to other Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Councils in the U.S.
During Year 2, the NOPSN team conducted a survey of RC&D Councils across the United States. Seventy-six out of 375 RC&D Councils completed the survey, with a broad national distribution of respondents. Out of the survey respondents, six Councils were chosen for follow-up interviews. Based on the results of the interviews, conducted in November 2008, four councils best suited for the application of a Solutions Network approach were chosen.
The four teams include North Central Washington RC&D, Solomon Valley RC&D, Threshold to Maine RC&D, and Wy’East RC&D.

The NOPSN team conducted workshops with each of the four RC&D Councils throughout the summer of 2009. During the workshops, NOPSN team members assisted Council members and other stakeholders in identifying potential resource management projects that could be enhanced through a Solutions Network approach and the utilization of NASA tools.
These issues will be explored further and developed into candidate solutions over the next several months as the NOPSN works with the four Councils and their partners. It is likely the candidate solutions developed for the four RC&D councils will address national-scale issues and needs.
The NOPSN team believes a successful transition and dissemination process will result in a greater understanding by RC&D Councils and their partner organizations around the country how NASA technology can be used in resource management at a watershed scale, as well as development of technical proposals that include a NASA technology component.
